BRANDXR WILL SHOWCASE AR MURALS AT DETROIT STARTUP WEEK

Moody Mattan • Feb 02, 2021

Boulder, Colo.-based technology incubator Techstars Central LLC will host its third entrepreneurial conference June 18–22 on a new indoor-outdoor campus that spans Grand Circus Park and ranges into nearby buildings.

Now officially called Techstars Startup Week Detroit, the event is moving out of its previous home base, the Masonic Temple. And it expects a crowd: 8,000-10,000, up from 6,500 attendees last year, event co-lead Monica Wheat said.

The free, weeklong collection of panel discussions, speeches, activities, networking and competitions is bringing back its women-tailored entrepreneur events from last year, including TED Talk-style Jill Talks by influential women. Quicken Loans Demo Day will return, as well, with companies pitching live for a total of $1 million in awards.

Chase for Business is the main event sponsor. This year startup week will host its Chase Basecamp at Grand Circus Park, which is just south of Comerica Park in the city's downtown. Other events are scheduled in recognizable buildings nearby, including the Detroit Opera House, Madison Building and David Whitney Building.

Those wandering among booths outdoors will be able to view interactive murals made in coordination with Electrifly Detroit. The startup creates specialized merchandise and augmented reality murals alongside a virtual reality business platform called BrandVR.

Participants can also travel to Detroit Startup Week events outside downtown Detroit, including in the city's southwest and Midtown, via shuttle bus.

Startup week will be sharing more news and schedule details closer to the event, Wheat said.
